OH YES, IT'S CHRISTMAS By KAY CONLEE

“If, as Herod, we fill our lives with things, and again with things; if we consider ourselves so unimportant that we must fill every moment with action, when will we have time to make the long, slow journey across the desert as did the Magi? Or sit and watch the stars, as did the shepherds? Or brood over the coming of the Christ Child as did Mary? For each one of us, there is a desert to travel. A star to discover. And a being within ourselves to bring to life.”

"There is no place like home." Six little words that have absolutely no truth unless there is one loving, kind, amazing human being willing to create a safe place for each family member or friend to be loved, encouraged and free to be uniquely themselves. Creating a precious Christmas memory for your family is within you also just as the experience we create comes from within us.

Real life can take its toll on the “ties that bind” families together; distance separates us whether by miles or maybe moments of hurt. Regardless of your situation, choose to be the one who creates this “magic” - the world of love you want in your home. Maybe others will notice and respond. But if you follow your heart, there will be change some time in some way.

Be of good cheer and keep the best from Christmases past. Start some new, and simply treasure the moments. Today there is a demand “to do” all that Christmas has become. What if this season you stopped, prayed, and remained still and quiet and found unfolding a plan to live the season with deeper meaning.

Consciously decide to be happy, loving, fun, creative, peaceful, and sensitive to focusing on healthy connections with those you love. Don’t wish for it and not do it, rather dream it and do it with passion. You might call this accomplishment a Christmas miracle, but those around you will call it undivided attention, the gift of joy, tenderness, a relaxed time, a beautiful Christmas, and most importantly love!

I’m going to have a star named for each of my grandchildren through the International Star Registry for their Christmas gift. I’ll sit them around me and read the Christmas story to them with such enthusiasm that they will smell the hay and feel “the night”. We’ll look up into the dark sky and find their star - Cooper Star, Gibson Star, Ellie Star, Davis Star and John Boone Star. When bedtime comes there will be no “visions of sugar plums” that night, but rather thoughts of the Christ child and His Star! You think they will remember it for a lifetime? I do!

"Just want to tell you I love your publication. As a school board member in CSISD, I was thrilled to see the page with the superintendent's interviews."
