Pool
Trout Fish Out
By TRISTEN, age 10
Have
you ever fished in a swimming pool? I have. I had the greatest
time at pool trout last year. We were driving to the pool, the back of my dad’s
truck jammed with our fishing poles and the rest of our gear. When we got there
I jumped out and grabbed my fishing poles. My dad grabbed our tackle box and cooler.

It was a clear but cold day with a little
bit of sunshine. My dad told me it that this weather is great for fishing. I really
didn’t think so because I was freezing.
It was neat because we could see what the fish were doing in the pool water, unlike
at a pond or lake where you can’t see them. That’s a big advantage
of fishing out of a pool. Well for some, they were catching fish left and right.
Others were not as lucky! The fish seemed to gather together in the corners and
people would cast their lines where the fish were and they would scatter. The
trout mostly stayed in the deep end of the pool. There were a few people fishing
from the shallow end. They would try to throw their lines all the way across to
the deep end. This would make me mad because I ended up getting tangled with someone
else.
At first we couldn’t get anything to bite. We tried trout bait, cheese,
and lures. Then we figured out how to get them. We threw out a little hook with
some corn on the end, and slowly reeled it in. The trout would charge the corn.
Now we started catching some trout. It seemed like every 5 seconds either my dad
or I had a fish. It was funny because every time we caught a fish, people would
slowly start moving closer to us. Guess they thought our luck would rub off on
them?
By the end of the day my dad caught 6 fish and I caught 5. Guess my dad was right...
it was a great day to catch trout. I am definitely going back next year!
